Grasse Mount

Grasse Mount, also known as the Thaddeus Tuttle House, is a historic building located on the University of Vermont campus in Burlington, Vermont. Built in 1804 for Captain Thaddeus Tuttle, a local merchant, this architectural gem was designed by John Johnson and showcases a rich history involving notable figures such as Vermont Governor Cornelius Van Ness and Revolutionary War General Marquis de Lafayette, who visited the estate in 1825. The property has changed hands multiple times, with intriguing stories of financial ups and downs, including a mysterious five-dollar buyback. Grasse Mount was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in early American history and architecture.
