City Tavern - colonial-era tavern reconstruction

City Tavern originally opened in 1773 and served as a gathering place for colonial Philadelphians and visiting statesmen. The original building was demolished in the 19th century and a reconstructed City Tavern opened on the historic site as a restaurant and living-history interpretation. The tavern recreates eighteenth-century recipes, table service, and period decor and is a documented local historic attraction in Old City. Residents and school groups regularly visit for historical programming and dining events.
