Fisher's Building

The Fisher's Building, also known as the Hanafins Building, was a stunning example of 19th-century Venetian Gothic architecture located in central Christchurch, New Zealand. Designed by architect William Armson and completed in 1880, it featured a distinctive triangular shape and ornate details, including a prominent verandah. Originally home to a tea and grocery store run by Thomas Richard Fisher, the building later housed various businesses, including a chemist and a photography store operated by the Hanafin family. Despite its historical significance and restoration efforts, the building was severely damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and was demolished later that year. As of 2024, the site remains vacant, serving as a car park, but plans for a new development are underway.
