The Westin St. Francis (St. Francis Hotel)

The St. Francis Hotel, now the Westin St. Francis at 335 Powell Street, originally opened in 1904 and was rebuilt and expanded following damage in the 1906 earthquake and fire. The hotel is noted for its grand public spaces, including a historic lobby rotunda and a Tiffany clock, and has hosted presidents, dignitaries, and major social events across the 20th century. Its presence on Union Square has made it a longstanding example of downtown San Francisco hotel architecture and urban social history.
