John Hancock Tower (200 Clarendon Street)

Designed by Henry N. Cobb of I.M. Pei & Partners and completed in 1976, the 60-story John Hancock Tower is 790 feet tall and is the tallest building in Boston and New England. Its minimalist, slanted parallelogram form is clad in a continuous blue reflective glass curtain wall. During its early years several glass panels fractured or detached and were later replaced with laminated panels; the building's engineering and façade issues were widely documented. The tower sits directly across Copley Square from Trinity Church, creating a frequently cited contrast in architectural styles.
