Stardust Resort and Casino - iconic mid-century megaresort implosion

The Stardust Resort and Casino, which originally opened in 1958 on the Las Vegas Strip, was one of the Strip's largest and most recognized hotels during the 20th century. The resort closed on November 1, 2006, and its main tower and casino were removed by a controlled implosion on March 13, 2007. The Stardust's long-running presence and dramatic demolition became widely reported symbols of redevelopment on the north Strip.
