Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve

The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, administered by the National Park Service, protects over 46,000 acres of wetlands, waterways, and historic sites around northern Jacksonville and the lower St. Johns River. Within the preserve are numerous recorded archaeological sites, including shell middens, village sites, and mission locations that document thousands of years of indigenous occupation in the region. The preserve's exhibits and research interpret the long-term presence and lifeways of Native American peoples in northeastern Florida.
