Heidelberg Project (community art and neighborhood lore)

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor community art environment created by Tyree Guyton along Heidelberg Street, centered around 3600 Heidelberg St. Since the 1980s it has been a focal point of local lore, debate, and storytelling about art, urban renewal, and neighborhood identity. Several installations on the site were deliberately set on fire in arson attacks in 2013, an event widely reported and that intensified local controversy over the project. The site continues to inspire community narratives and contested interpretations of public art.
