Black Lives Matter Plaza (adjacent to the White House)

On June 5, 2020, the D.C. Department of Public Works painted 35-foot yellow letters reading "BLACK LIVES MATTER" on a two-block section of 16th Street NW leading to Lafayette Square, adjacent to the White House. The area was subsequently designated "Black Lives Matter Plaza" by the D.C. Council and became a focal point for demonstrations, memorials, and visitors during the 2020 protests. The site is immediately north of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW and remains a recent neighborhood landmark.
