Woodlawn (Columbia, Maryland)

Woodlawn is a historic plantation house located in Columbia, Maryland, built in 1840 with earlier sections dating back to 1785. This two-story stuccoed stone house showcases a blend of Greek Revival and Italianate architectural styles. Once part of a 200-acre farm owned by the Dorsey family, it became associated with Henry Howard Owings, a notable landowner and judge. The plantation was primarily a tobacco farm and has undergone significant changes over the years, including the subdivision of its land for development. Despite modern encroachments, efforts have been made to preserve the property, including the restoration of its historic slave quarters. Woodlawn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a site of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring Maryland's history.
