War Memorial Opera House

The War Memorial Opera House opened in 1932 as part of San Francisco's Civic Center complex and was designed in a classical/Italian Renaissance style by the municipal architect Arthur Brown Jr. It has been the principal home of the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Ballet since its opening. The building is noted for its large horseshoe-shaped auditorium, decorative plasterwork, and role in the city's cultural life.
