University of Cervera

The Royal and Pontifical University of Cervera, founded in 1717 by Philip V of Spain, was established in Cervera, Catalonia, as a means to reward the town for its loyalty during the War of the Spanish Succession while penalizing other parts of Catalonia. It absorbed faculties from six disbanded universities in the region. Despite its initial significance, the university's influence waned, leading to its closure in 1835. The university's historic building, designed by Francesc Soriano, was recognized as a cultural monument of national significance in 1947, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
