Dranesville Tavern

The Dranesville Tavern, built in 1823 in Dranesville, Virginia, is a historic commercial building that served as a 'wagon stand' for teamsters. It was operational until 1946 and housed boarders until 1968. To protect it from the proposed widening of Route 7, the tavern was relocated 130 feet in 1968. Now situated near Herndon, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. In a unique initiative, the Fairfax County Park Authority plans to implement a 'Resident Curator Program' in July 2025, allowing residents to live in the tavern for free while maintaining its historical integrity.
