Mystery Castle and Boyce Gulley folklore

Mystery Castle, constructed in the 1930s by Boyce Gulley in the foothills south of Phoenix, was built using found and recycled materials and intended as a gift for his daughter. Its unusual architecture, eclectic rooms, and backstory have generated numerous local legends, tours, and ghost stories; the site now operates as a museum run by Gulley’s descendants. Some aspects of Gulley’s personal history and the castle’s construction are the subject of differing accounts in local histories.
