Poetter Hall

Poetter Hall, located in Savannah, Georgia, is a historic academic building originally constructed in 1893 as the Savannah Volunteer Guards Armory. Designed by architect William G. Preston in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, it replaced a previous armory destroyed by fire. After serving various purposes, including housing a National Guard unit and a high school, the building was renovated in 1979 to become the first academic facility for the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). It was named in honor of SCAD cofounders May and Paul Poetter, and has received recognition for its preservation, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in architecture and educational history.
