National World War II Memorial - pillars and twin arches

The National World War II Memorial consists of 56 granite pillars and a pair of arches representing the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, arranged around a central plaza and fountain. It honors the approximately 16 million Americans who served in the armed forces during World War II and was dedicated on May 29, 2004. The memorial is located on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
