Pueblo Grande Archaeological Park - Hohokam canal remains

Pueblo Grande Archaeological Park preserves a Hohokam village and platform mound alongside remains and interpretive traces of prehistoric irrigation canals dug into the Salt River Valley floodplain. The Hohokam canal network, constructed and expanded between roughly the first millennium and 1450 CE, is documented as an extensive engineered irrigation system in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. The preserved features at Pueblo Grande demonstrate how ancient societies altered desert hydrology to support large settlements in what is now central Phoenix. The site is operated as a museum and archaeological park with on-site exhibits and trails.
