Carrington House

The Carrington House, a historic bungalow in Cherry Grove, New York, was built around 1912 and is one of the earliest structures on Fire Island. Originally constructed for Frederick Marquet, it gained prominence when theater director Frank Carrington acquired it in 1927, transforming it into a haven for LGBT artists, including Truman Capote, who wrote 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' there. The house reflects the rich cultural history of Fire Island, which became a popular retreat for the gay community in the 1920s. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, the Carrington House stands as a testament to the island's artistic legacy and its significance in LGBT history.
