Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the Tidal Basin was dedicated and opened to the public in 2011 and commemorates Dr. King's life and leadership in the civil rights movement. The memorial's central sculpture, called the Stone of Hope, is inspired by a line from King's 1963 'I Have a Dream' speech and is set within a landscape of inscriptions of King's speeches and writings. The site is managed by the National Park Service and is a focal point during commemorations and the city's public gatherings.
