United States Botanic Garden

The United States Botanic Garden traces its origins to the early 19th century and has operated adjacent to the U.S. Capitol since the 1820s in various forms; the present Conservatory and grounds date primarily to the early 20th century. The living collection includes plants from around the world used for conservation, research, and public education, and the site maintains historic formal display gardens on the grounds. The Botanic Garden is a public institution administered by the U.S. Congress through a congressional commission.
