Asian Art Museum (Civic Center)

The Asian Art Museum, located in the Civic Center, holds one of the largest collections of Asian art in the world with more than 18,000 works spanning 6,000 years. The museum opened in its current building in 2003 after relocating from the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum and occupies a landmarked neoclassical building formerly used as the San Francisco Public Library. It serves as a cultural anchor for the Civic Center neighborhood with rotating exhibitions, educational programs, and public events.
