Spirit of Detroit (public sculpture)

The Spirit of Detroit is a bronze sculpture by Marshall Fredericks installed at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in 1958. The figure has become an enduring civic symbol and is commonly used in public events and celebrations; during sports championship parades it is often draped with team jerseys or banners. Its plaza-facing location on Woodward Avenue makes it a frequent gathering and photo spot for residents and visitors.
