Old South Meeting House and the Boston Tea Party location myth

Old South Meeting House was the site where colonists gathered on December 16, 1773 to protest the tea tax and held the large meeting that preceded the Boston Tea Party. A common misconception is that the tea was dumped from the meeting house itself; in fact the tea was thrown from ships at Griffin's Wharf on the waterfront. The Old South site remains an important interpretive location for the event but was not the physical site of the tea being destroyed.
