Liberty Hotel (former Charles Street Jail)

The Liberty Hotel occupies the restored Charles Street Jail, a granite jailhouse completed in the mid-19th century and designed by Gridley J. F. Bryant. The jail was decommissioned as a correctional facility in the late 20th century and the building was adaptively reused and reopened as the Liberty Hotel, preserving the jail's rotunda and granite exterior. The conversion is frequently cited as a prominent example of historic preservation and adaptive reuse in Boston.
