Detroit Institute of Arts (Detroit Industry Murals)

The Detroit Institute of Arts houses Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry murals, a 27-panel mural cycle painted in 1932–1933 and commissioned by Edsel Ford. The murals occupy the museum's courtyard/assembly area and depict workers, industry, and machinery of the Detroit region; they are widely regarded as a major work of 20th-century muralism. The DIA building also contains an extensive collection of global art and serves as a major cultural institution on Woodward Avenue.
