Temple Adath Israel (Owensboro, Kentucky)

Temple Adath Israel, established in 1858, is a historic Reform Jewish congregation located in Owensboro, Kentucky. The synagogue, built between 1877 and 1878, showcases a unique Moorish Revival façade with Gothic Revival elements, including an arched door and windows. Originally adorned with a parapet and onion domes, these features were removed in 2015 to preserve the structure. Recognized for its historical significance, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, making it one of the oldest synagogue buildings in the United States, attracting both tourists and researchers interested in Jewish heritage and architecture.
