U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL)

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory was established in Washington, D.C. in 1923 as the Navy’s corporate research laboratory. NRL researchers performed pioneering radio and radar research in the 1920s–1940s and developed electronic systems and prototypes that contributed to military and scientific advances. The laboratory continues research in areas such as plasma physics, radio propagation, and space science.
