Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

Opened in 1974 and designed by architect Gordon Bunshaft, the Hirshhorn is notable for its distinctive hollow cylindrical main building mounted on a podium. The museum specializes in modern and contemporary art and is operated by the Smithsonian Institution. Its adjacent outdoor sculpture garden presents large-scale works on the National Mall.
