Lan Su Chinese Garden - Taihu scholar's stones

Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland's Old Town contains traditional Chinese scholar's stones (Taihu stones), irregular, porous limestone shapes prized for their eroded, hole-filled appearance. These Taihu stones were selected and placed as focal rocks in the classical scholar-garden design, imported and installed to recreate the aesthetic of Suzhou-style gardens. The porous limestone contrasts with the garden's plantings and architecture and is a documented feature of the garden's collection.
