Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge - Fossil Ridge outcrops

The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is a roughly 3,600-acre preserve on the West Fork of the Trinity River that is named for Fossil Ridge, a local limestone ridge with visible fossil-bearing outcrops. Visitors can see exposed sedimentary layers and marine fossils in the limestone bluffs along trails and riverbanks. The site’s rock exposures illustrate parts of the region’s sedimentary bedrock and are used for informal geological interpretation and educational programs. The refuge is managed by the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department.
