The Lincoln Theatre - venue for prominent African American performers

The Lincoln Theatre, opened in 1922 on U Street NW, served as an important performance venue for African American entertainers during the 20th century. Noted performers including Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others appeared there, and the theater is documented for its role in the cultural life of Washington's Black community. The restored theater remains a historic performing arts venue and landmark on the U Street corridor.
