Assassination of Malcolm X at the Audubon Ballroom

On February 21, 1965, Malcolm X was shot and killed while preparing to speak at the Audubon Ballroom. The attack occurred on the ballroom's stage; three men were convicted in the killing in 1966. The Audubon Ballroom site at 3940 Broadway is widely cited in histories of the civil rights movement and in accounts of Malcolm X's life and death.
