Grand Central Terminal whispering gallery

An arched tiled alcove on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal, near the Oyster Bar, produces a 'whispering gallery' effect: whispers at one corner can be heard clearly at the opposite corner due to the vault's acoustics. This phenomenon is frequently demonstrated by visitors and has been described in acoustical analyses of the terminal's design. The feature is located within Grand Central Terminal's main concourse and dining concourse areas.
