Vietnam Veterans Memorial - 'The Wall' by Maya Lin

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, commonly called 'The Wall,' was designed by Maya Lin and dedicated in 1982 as a V-shaped black granite installation inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 American service members who died in or were listed as missing in the Vietnam War. The memorial's reflective surface and listing of individual names were intended to create a contemplative experience for visitors and have been extensively documented in congressional and National Park Service records. The site is administered by the National Park Service as part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks.
