Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (Ballard Locks) - locks, fish ladder, and administration building

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, commonly called the Ballard Locks, are a lock complex and fish ladder that connect the Lake Washington Ship Canal to Puget Sound. Completed in 1917 and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the site includes a brick-and-concrete administration building, public viewing areas, a visitor center, and landscaped gardens. The locks remain an active navigation facility and a popular place to observe migrating salmon in the fish ladder.
