BBVA Compass Stadium (now Shell Energy Stadium) opened as Houston's soccer-specific venue

BBVA Compass Stadium opened in May 2012 as a soccer-specific stadium in Houston and became the home of Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo and the National Women's Soccer League's Houston Dash. The stadium was designed to provide a downtown, soccer-focused venue after the Dynamo's earlier seasons at Robertson Stadium. It has hosted regular-season MLS matches, NWSL matches, CONCACAF club competitions, and concerts since opening.
