Harold–Knoernschild Farmstead Historic District

The Harold–Knoernschild Farmstead Historic District, also known as Centennial Farms, is a captivating historic site located in Augusta, Missouri. Established in 1836, this two-story log farmhouse showcases a blend of French architectural influences, featuring a full facade porch and a distinctive stone chimney. The property includes a historic barn from around 1860 and early-20th century outbuildings. Founded by Leonard Harold, a veteran of the War of 1812, the farmstead reflects the rich history of German settlers in the area. Visitors can explore the unique architectural elements, including the integration of materials from a nearby steamboat, and learn about the challenges faced by early settlers, such as the significant flood of 1880 that altered the Missouri River's course. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
