Archer's Garage

Archer's Garage, located at the intersection of Sandwith Street and Fenian Street in Dublin, is a notable Art Deco building originally constructed in 1946. Designed by architect Billy Baird, it was the first building in Ireland to utilize reinforced concrete and fluorescent lighting. The garage served as the first dealership for Ford motorcars in Ireland. Despite its historical significance, it was illegally demolished in 1999, leading to public outcry and legal repercussions that increased penalties for the destruction of listed buildings. Following a lengthy legal battle, a replica of the original structure was completed in 2004, preserving its architectural legacy.
