Submarine Memorial Chapel

The Submarine Memorial Chapel, located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam in Hawaii, is the oldest chapel at Pearl Harbor, dedicated in 1944 to honor submariners who lost their lives during World War II. Conceived by Navy Chaplain Thomas H. Reilly, the chapel features stunning stained glass windows and houses the ship's bell from the USS Argonaut. Although it stopped hosting regular services in the early 2000s, a congregation resumed them in 2015. The chapel is also known for the monthly 'Tolling of the Boats' ceremony, which commemorates the 52 U.S. submarines lost during the war, making it a poignant site for both tourists and researchers interested in military history.
