City limits cross three counties

The municipal boundaries of the City of Austin extend beyond Travis County into portions of Williamson and Hays counties. This multi-county footprint affects which county agencies and courts have jurisdiction for addresses inside Austin. Austin's patchwork of annexations has produced noncontiguous city 'islands' and irregular city-limit lines documented in municipal maps and planning records.
