The Franklin Institute

Founded in 1824, The Franklin Institute is one of the oldest centers for science education and public exhibitions in the United States and has operated continuous public programs in Philadelphia since its founding. Its museum complex on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway preserves historic scientific instruments and exhibits documenting the development of public science education and technology in the city. The Institute's historical collections and educational infrastructure reflect 19th- and 20th-century efforts to institutionalize scientific learning for the public.
