Old North Church (Christ Church) and the signal lanterns

Christ Church in the City of Boston, commonly called Old North Church, was built in 1723 and is the city's oldest surviving church building. In April 1775 the church's parishioners displayed lanterns in the steeple-an act traditionally linked to signaling British troop movements across the Charles River and to Paul Revere's ride. The building is both an active Episcopal parish and a historic site with visitor tours and exhibits about its Revolutionary-era role.
