Theophile Bruguier Cabin

The Theophile Bruguier Cabin, located in Sioux City, Iowa, is a historic site that marks the legacy of the first Caucasian settler in the area, Theophile Bruguier, a Quebec native and fur trader. Established in 1849 at the confluence of the Missouri and Big Sioux Rivers, the cabin reflects the early pioneer life and the interactions with the Yankton tribe, represented by Bruguier's family connections. Originally built around 1860, the cabin underwent restoration in 1934 and now serves as a memorial to both Bruguier and the peaceful relations with the Sioux nation. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, making it a significant attraction for tourists and researchers interested in early American history and indigenous relations.
