Old Government House, Brisbane

Old Government House, located at Gardens Point in Brisbane, Queensland, is a significant example of Australian classical revival architecture. Constructed in 1860 to house the first Governor of Queensland, Sir George Bowen, the building features a plain design to accommodate both public and private functions without overwhelming local citizens. The site offers stunning views of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and the Brisbane River. The house hosted its first public event, a grand ball, in June 1862, and served as the residence for the first eleven governors of Queensland. Over the years, it underwent various modifications and extensions, ultimately becoming part of the Queensland University of Technology in 1909. Today, it stands as a heritage-listed site, reflecting the rich history and architectural evolution of Queensland's governance.
