The Whitney (Gilded Age mansion and restaurant)

Built in 1894 as the home of lumber baron David Whitney Jr., the Whitney is a Gilded Age mansion on Woodward Avenue noted for its ornate interior woodwork and period architectural details. In the late 20th century the house was converted into a fine-dining restaurant while preserving much of its historic character. The Whitney remains a well-known example of Detroit's late-19th-century residential opulence.
