Originally, Port Angeles had a post office since 1860, but it lacked a permanent location until this building was constructed at a cost of $124,807. The site has a rich history, including the relocation of a squatter to make way for the post office. Although a new post office was built in 1978, this historic building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a notable attraction for tourists and researchers interested in the architectural and social history of the area.
