Convent of the Mercedarians

The Convent of the Mercedarians, located in Belém, Pará, Brazil, is a historic site established in 1640 to house friars from Quito. This architectural gem includes the Church of Our Lady Mercy and has played a pivotal role in the city's history, witnessing events like the Cabanagem revolt. After a devastating fire in 1978, it was renovated and now serves various governmental functions, including housing the Superintendence of Patrimony of the Union. In 2018, it was designated for use by the Federal University of Pará, making it a significant cultural and educational landmark in the region.
