St. Mary's School and Asylum

St. Mary's School and Asylum, established in 1866 in Dedham, Massachusetts, was a Catholic girls' school and orphanage founded by the Sisters of Charity. The institution transformed a former liquor establishment into a center for education and virtue, quickly gaining community support and educating 60 girls while providing a home for orphans. Despite its initial success, financial challenges led to its closure in 1879, and the building was sold in 1905. The school's legacy reflects the historical efforts to uplift the local community through education.
