Bobbi Gibb - first woman to finish the Boston Marathon (1966)

In 1966 Bobbi Gibb ran and finished the Boston Marathon without an official bib, becoming the first woman to complete the race while it was organized by the Boston Athletic Association. Her entry was not officially recognized at the time because the marathon did not accept female entrants, and her run is documented in accounts of women's increasing participation in distance running. The marathon finish line is on Boylston Street in front of the Boston Public Library.
