Friedrichs-Waisenhaus Rummelsburg

Friedrichs-Waisenhaus Rummelsburg, established in 1702 by Frederick William I of Prussia, served as an orphanage and infirmary in Berlin, initially caring for military orphans. By the 1720s, it housed hundreds of children, reflecting the growing need for such institutions. A new facility was constructed in 1859, alongside a workhouse, following the introduction of compulsory education in 1878. Unfortunately, the original building was destroyed during air raids in 1943, marking a significant loss in Berlin's historical landscape.
